Meet the Pastor

Stephen F. Mason, Pastor of Greater Pearlie Grove M. B. Church, preaches and teaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that encourages, exhorts, and challenges people to move from religion to relationship.

Reverend Mason is the youngest of three children born to the late Jonathan & Iranetta Mason. Rev. Mason’s life and ministry have been profoundly shaped by the nurturing care of his mother and the loving discipline of his father. His “real life” messages are infused with rich doses of witticisms, life lessons, and metaphors that he learned from his father.

Mason graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Jackson State University in 1976. Rev. Mason worked as a teacher for over 20 years. God used Stephen Mason’s professional career to prepare him for ministry. Rev. Mason was called to the ministry in October 1987 and was ordained in April 1988. He received further religious educational training at Wesley Methodist Seminary,

Jackson, MS. He received a Masters of Divinity in New Testament Studies from the University of Biblical Studies and Seminary located in Bethany, Oklahoma, and received a Doctorate in Christian Education from Andersonville Baptist Seminary, Camilla, GA.

Stephen Mason was called to the pastorate in Carthage, MS, where he served for seven years. In May of 1995, Mason accepted the position as pastor of Greater Pearlie Grove M. B. Church of Jackson, MS. He came to the church in a time of transition and hurt. God used him to promote healing and stability. A building project had been started prior to Rev. Mason's arrival, so God used him to carry the project to completion. The church began to flourish spiritually; and God was pleased to add souls.

Because of the demands associated with the church’s growth, Rev. Mason found himself faced with the choice to continue his secular job – teaching in the public school system - or to leave for full-time service to the church. Rev. Mason chose to trust God and to serve the church as full-time pastor. As a result of his faithfulness to God, the membership increased such that the initiation of a new church construction project became necessary. God was pleased to relocate Greater Pearlie Grove from its former location at  Grand Avenue to its current home at 1640 West County Line Road. On Sunday, November 11, 2012, Greater Pearlie Grove held its first worship service in the new location.

Under his leadership, the church continues to grow spiritually with the addition of several new ministries designed to meet the needs of the congregation and to proclaim Christ to the community.

Pastor Mason is married to the former Vickie Thompson of Flora, MS. They have been married for over 31 years and share two children together – Nathan Andrew and Margaret Sinclair.
